Story Board Animatic

1 - What moment in particular did you enjoy and why?
"The Chorus, and the establishment between the female protagonist and the male dancer, it 'de-clichés' the idea of the love story".
2- What moment in particular did you dislike and why? How would you changed it?
"More moments between, the dancer and the singer to establish a greater love story".
3 - What is your overall opinion about the music video? 6 - What do you think about set designs and the use of projections?
"I think the idea of projections is very clever, using manipulated format instead of a physical set"
4 - What were your initial thoughts when the music video started?
"Confusion as to what 'Earth' meant, it became clear shorty after that..."
5 - Do you like this song and do you think music video suits it?
"Though the song follows the topic of a love story, the aspects of the narrative make it very different, the melody has a different feel to that of a cliche boy girl story line"

Our meeting with Luke

Mid week, we meet with the creative director to discuss our ideas with the glass box and what we had in mind for a final music video.

He faced us with plenty of obstacles and issue with our ideas which meant we had to re-think and re-evaluate...

Such as the prospect of using the glass box, the reasons for the use of dancers, certain elements of the use of colour, paint, smoke, and made us see a lot of production holes in our idea. Not being able to do certain things in the studio, using fire, smoke grenades or paint, as we well set of the alarms or reck the set with colour.

The dancers didn't mean anything, and it would be hard to get the best part of 7 males and female dancers to come on set, and cover up in paint.

And the box idea, would be very hard to do, and expansive. It is also a bad idea, as it restricts our creative capability.

So in essence we have had to take a few steps back and reconsider, what would be realistic and interesting for the audience.

Costume for dancers

The idea we had around the dancers in the music video, was that they represented the lyric in the song, white light. The reason that they are dressed in white, is so that they act as a blank canvas for the us of pain, or the elements explained in  the last post.

Near the end of the music video, they would begin the rub paint on themselves, on the walls, and a dull, plain space, and dull plain dancers, would suddenly become colourful and exiting.

Elements of Nature : each glass box

Fire in the hands, each element is one that the
protagonist/singer has control of...
Light would be another aspect, though not an element, the
use of hanging lights would be soemthing to explore.

Another aspect of light to explore, if we want to go BIG!

It is possible for us to hire in fire eaters for the background of our fire element aspect.

Friday 2 October 2015

This version of Shura's "White Light" has been cut down to 2 Minutes and 50 Seconds, the Original version is over 7 minutes long.

2 different aspects will appear in the video, either she will be navigating or joining in with dancers, in the first and second Verse, she will be with the dancers, with the first chorus, she is in a tall and wide Glass box, and the final Chorus, it will be a mix of the two concepts.

The Dancers will be of mixed/relevant style.

Thursday 1 October 2015

Oliver All grove is an executive producer of Passion Pictures who has been involved in a

number of music video productions, and low budget films.

He came in to talk to us about the process of making music videos, the issue we may face and how to overcome them. Using a music video that the company did back in 2007, as an example, he showed us how a low budget, allows you to explore more creative ways of producing artistic imagery.

In the music video he sampled, they had to show someone jumping off a roof with an umbrella. a stunt which cost in the thousands of £££ to do, they explored the idea, and decided that the best thing to do, was to attach a camera to some wether balloons, and shoot first person, then switch back when the feet were meant to touch the ground.

He was very clear about not fixing anything in post-production and editing, saying "we will fix it in post", is a very big risk to take, because if you can't, you have to organise another shoot day, which is expensive and time consuming, and there is the continuity issue. So, we heeded that advice.

He also talked about studio locations, and that it is surprisingly better and cheaper to go abroad to shoot than to shoot in Britain, it could save us the best part of £200,000 on a project, to got to Prague, than to shoot in London. We must always properly investigate our options, as there may be a better deal, with less to pay.

Conclusion

He made us understand that we can explore more and be more creative, even on a low / minimal budget, we will apply the idea of doing as much as is humanly possible on set, because a. It looks better, if we get in right, b. you can't always fix it in post.
